ACTIVE, AUTHENTIC & ADVENTUROUS

Game drives are what are normally associated with safaris, but to feel the pulse of Africa and to enhance your understanding of the true nature and sounds of the African wilderness, nothing beats walking in the bush with expert guides and naturalists. Except ... perhaps paddling a canoe and encountering, at eye level, hippos, crocodiles, elephants and buffaloes that inhabit reed-fringed islands!

Walking - Escape from the vehicle and learn to share the habitat with the animals.  “Walking Safaris” gives you the opportunity to feel the nature around you, the time to appreciate the smaller forms of life, the varied plant species, sighting colorful birds  and becoming a living, breathing part of the natural world. You become more aware of your senses  and in tune with your surroundings by listening to the sounds, picking up the various smells and feeling the direction of the wind on your skin.

Most of the walking safaris are conducted in areas where there are no vehicles or roads. It involves walking  for several hours a day, which takes place during the cooler hours at a moderate pace and can be enjoyed by most guests.

Three to five day ‘walking safaris’ are available primarily in Zambia, the home of the walking safari.

Canoeing - The quietest and and less obtrusive way of enjoying of Africa’s habitat riches certainly ranks as one of the greatest  wilderness experiences.

Canoe Trails” are offered in both Zimbabwe and Zambia on the magnificent Zambezi River, where large herds of elephant wade in the shallows, and buffalos bask on the reeded islands. The canoe trails, conducted in Canadian two-person canoes,  drift downstream at a leisurely pace, enabling one to enjoy the wildlife, listen to the sound of the huge variety of bird life, and admire the sheer beauty of the surroundings.  Take a break from the canoeing and walk further inland to the floodplain fringed with winterthorn trees (Faidherbia  albida) ... a great area for walking safaris.

Explorations - These safaris take advantage of exclusive locations, mostly in private concessions, offering guests a select, spectacular journey through pristine areas to enjoy some of the most outstanding wildlife viewing.  Explorations are for small groups of up to 8 guests, or tailor-made for private groups.  Different options include:

Discoverer Explorations” - a deluxe range of mobile safaris that have the advantage of superb locations, including remote wilderness areas.  Itineraries provide exciting wildlife encounters in the most diverse, renowned and scenic areas in each country.

Adventurer Explorations” - camps are pre-erected in prime, shady sites, close to the wildlife. These trails camps have "maxi" dome tents which are surprisingly spacious and sport stretchers and cotton linen. Thanks to easy mobility these safaris explore the most remote and secret corners of the subcontinent.

Trails Explorations” - camps are not accommodation specific. Adventurer dome tents and Discoverer Meru tents as well as sleeping platforms are used, and are defined by the self-propelled nature of the experience, whether this be on foot, canoe or bicycle.
